Mission: Stargate Command
Location: SDS Security Liaison Office

Col. Jordon Mason
SDS Security Liaison
&
Cpl. Inola MacKenna
SDS Administrative Assistant

ON:
“Thank you.” Jordon said to the welcome, “You would be?” he asked looking at the young woman. This was his office, so he wasn’t sure why she was there.
-
“Corporal MacKenna, your Administrative Assistant.” She responded extending a hand.
-
Jordon shook the offered hand, “I didn’t know I’d have an Admin Assistant.” He said letting go of her hand and glancing around.
-
“Your reputation precedes you, Sir. Brass wanted to ensure the paperwork got done, and you stayed on task.” She said holding her hands in a modified at east.
-
Jordon looked back at her, he wasn’t used to being spoken too like that by Corporals. “I see.” He said “So we share this space?” he asked figuring if they did, then at least he’d have an excuse to avoid it more often.
-
“Don’t be silly” she said turning and walking towards a second door, “SDS doesn’t scrimp on its people, you know that.” She opened the door and flicked the light switch. Through the door was a storage area turned cigar lounge turned office. Almost twice the size of the one she occupied the walls were a dark walnut with warm lighting, the floor appeared to be wood, but closer inspection showed it was a high-quality tile. The far end held a large oak desk, complete with a computer system with 3 displays, and a second computer with its own display. A high-backed chair sat looking very inviting. Behind the desk the wall housed several cabinets, many of which were secured with biometric readers, as well as a door that lead to a small private bathroom and shower. Along one of the side walls was a wet bar, though it was distinctly missing bottles of alcohol, though it did have a humidor with a note setting on top, it looked like it was more for preparing a snack or coffee during extended periods of labor. The other wall was almost bare, and appeared to be for hanging photos or things of that nature, though had a very comfortable looking couch, either for guests or for catching a few zzz’s on a long night. “I’d think you’d know your employers better by now.” She said with a smile.
-
Jordon looked around the room… there when his excuse to avoid the place. “Coffee.” He said as he headed towards his desk to look at what all was there.
-
“I’d love a cup, thanks.” She responded heading back to her desk.
-
Jordon turned to look at the place where his assistant had been only to realize she’d already returned to her desk. Jordon shook his head and went to the brand-new Keurig at the bar. He started looking over the controls trying to figure out how to work the thing. He had one at home, but it was nothing like this.
-
Inola laughed watching the Colonel from the door trying to figure out the coffee machine. She walked over to it and bumped him out of the way with her hip. “I always thought it was just chauvinism that made men think the woman had to make coffee, now I realized it’s just that they can’t figure it out.” She said with obvious humor in her voice. She opened it and inserted the K-Cup, and set it to make a carafe full.
-
Jordon wanted to rebuke her, but realized he hadn’t been able to figure it out… though she hadn’t really given him much time to do so. He walked to the humidor and grabbed the note.

Colonel,

I know this wasn’t your first choice of assignments, but we all do what we must do. Hopefully these will help. I was told you enjoy a smoke once in a while, I had these imported from a very exclusive island south of Florida…

Enjoy,
Ross

Jordon opened the box and took a long whiff of the Cuban made Cohibas inside.
-
Inola let out a long whistle, “Wow, I’ve never actually seen on of those before… the smell expensive.” She said looking at them.
-
The Keurig started percolating and the smell of the coffee started to compete with the smell of the cigars. Jordon closed the lid and headed towards his desk. “Okay, what all do I need to know?” he asked getting his mind refocused.
-
Inola took the carafe when it finished filling and poured a cup. She considered placing cream and sugar on a tray, but decided against it. Instead she poured herself a cup as well, and delivered it to the desk. She placed his cup before him then sat down with hers.
-
“No cream and sugar?” he asked looking at the cup of black coffee.
-
She smiled at him, “You’re a Marine, right? I’ve never known Marines to take cream and sugar.” She responds as a matter of fact.
-
Jordon smiled, she was right, he always took it black. He took a sip, “Good coffee.” He said as a statement more than anything.
-
“Thank you, I try.” She responded setting down the cup and pulling a tablet out of a pocket of her uniform.
-
I’d say your welcome, but all you did is push some buttons.” He said smiling over the cup, “Now… where were we?”
-
“Damn, the old man’s going senile already… we’re in Colorado, Sir.” She said as she turned on the tablet and opened the calendar and her notepad.
-
Jordon let out a groan. But he could tell she was just messing with him.
-
“Ok, you have a meeting with Admiral Mike Fischer, he’s the CO here. SDS sent a long some information for you, the short version, he’s been here for a long time, and he’s from the USAF.” She said moving to the next set of notes, “The first of your officers should be arriving here later today, and the rest of the SDS personnel over the course of the week. We haven’t worked out exactly how this is all going to work, but SDS has laid a lot of the ground work for you. There are a number of personnel transfer requests you’ll need to approve. You’ll find them all in the transfers folder on your new system, and there are also several eye’s only documents you’ll need to review on the secured system.”
-
Jordon nodded… exactly why he didn’t want this job. He’d been here 20 minutes and the paperwork was staggering. “I guess I’ll start with meeting the Admiral.” He said and took a long pull from his coffee before setting it down on his desk.
-
She nodded and stood retrieving her coffee, she pulled up a diagram of the base, “This is how you get to his office.” She said showing him the path.
-
Jordon glanced at it, confirmed it was the same as what he’d already been given to study. “Thank you.”
-
Inola nodded and headed back to her desk with her cup. “No problem, Sir.”
-
Jordon walked past her and exited his office. She was going to take some getting used to.
