|Personal History||Maddy was born to Troy and Addison Chapman at Coronado Naval Base in San Diego. Troy was a decorated Navy SEAL officer, her mother was personnel officer. When she was four, her parents gave birth to her brother Tony. Unlike a lot of Naval families they stayed in San Diego instead of moving around.
Maddy has always wanted to help people and was unsure if she wanted to go into physical or psychological medicine. She decided to double major at the bachelor level and make up her mind later. At the end of her senior year, the week before finals, her family was in a car accident that instantly killed her parents. Her brother was critically injured and died 3 days later. Maddy was devastated and did not take any of her finals, though her grades were high enough for her to still graduate. After the accident, she practically shut down and her Dad's SEAL team stepped in, Chris Frederick, her Dad's partner and new leader of the team, set up rotations to make sure she was not alone and taken care of. This backfired when the newest member of the team started abusing her. Unable to bring herself to report him and hurt the team when they were already hurting, she loaded her car and drove East, not stopping until the car ran out of gas.
After a week of driving around the country, her Camaro broke down and she had to push it into a shopping plaza. Crying and unsure of what she was going to do with the rest of her life, she looked up to see she was standing in front of a Naval recruitment office. She was a Navy brat, Navy was in her DNA for generations, so she wiped eyes walked in and enlisted. She chose field medic and entered training. A few days after she enlisted, Scott Mortimer who had known her since she was 16, showed up having been looking for her since he heard she was missing. He tried to talk her out of joining the Navy but she ignored him wanting to find some sense of home again and hoping the Navy would provide it.
She spent several years as a field medic on the aircraft carrier the USS Eisenhower deployed on several aid and humanitarian missions. In 2004, while at an orphanage , administering vaccines, the team came under attack. The team leader was one of the first people shot, Maddy dragged him inside the orphanage while under and returning fire. Her calm yet commanding demeanor under fire impressed the CO. Shortly after that, a spec-ops joint mission between the Navy and Marines lost their field medic and the CO suggested her as a replacement, despite the fact that she was a female. She spent over a year doing black ops with this team, despite her record indicating she was still assigned to the Eisenhower. Her exemplary service put her on the short list for the Stargate program when a medic position became available. Her record, and Naval pedigree, secured her the position.
